Unless you have been in an isolated bubble, you will have by now heard about Chat GPT.
At this point, you are either nodding, groaning, or both!
With anything new, there can be excitement, fear, and everything in between. If you’re a leader hearing about the use of Chat GPT and even dabbling with it, I would love to know how you are using it. If you don’t know what Chat GPT is, read on…
I believe that there is a place for leaders to be able to use Chat GPT to support their leadership practice. In this article, we will provide some useful ways that you can use Chat GPT.
Chat GPT stands for “Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer” and it is a type of large language model developed by Open AI.
Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) is a class of language models that use deep learning techniques to generate human-like text. These models are pre-trained on large amounts of data, allowing them to learn patterns and relationships within language. Chat GPT is specifically designed for chatbot applications, allowing it to engage in natural language conversations with humans. A common question I have heard is, but isn’t it like Google? Short answer: No. Using this tool, you type in a question, and it provides a response. A slab of information that you can work through to help resolve an issue at hand. You can ask it anything. Need some ideas for an area of research? Type in your question. Need a poem about cricket bats (I don’t know why you would)? Type in the request. Need an article written in the style of your preferred journalist? Type it in, and voila! In under ten seconds, you will have your response.
Chat GPT is capable of understanding and generating text in multiple languages and can be customized for specific domains or tasks. It has been used in a variety of applications, including customer service, language translation, and personal assistants.
The biggest criticism of CHAT GPT that I hear from my clients and broader network is that it will take our jobs! It will make education assignments redundant and effectively make us dumb. It may do some of this, however, I don’t think it will. I think it will be a beneficial resource that supports the generation of ideas, or as I like to refer to them, thought primers.
As a leader, you can use CHAT GPT as a useful resource in several ways:
Research: You can use CHAT GPT to research a wide range of topics related to your industry, competitors, and customers. CHAT GPT can provide you with insights and data that can help you make informed decisions about your business strategy.
Predictive Analytics: CHAT GPT can help you identify trends and predict future outcomes based on historical data. By leveraging the power of machine learning, CHAT GPT can help you make data-driven decisions that can help your organization stay ahead of the competition.
Customer Support: CHAT GPT can be used to develop chatbots that can provide 24/7 customer support. These chatbots can answer common customer questions, provide product recommendations, and even troubleshoot issues. By using chatbots, you can improve customer satisfaction and reduce the workload of your support team.
Employee Training: CHAT GPT can be used to create training materials for your employees. You can use CHAT GPT to develop interactive quizzes and exercises that can help your employees improve their skills and knowledge.
Content Creation: CHAT GPT can be used to generate content for your website, social media channels, and marketing campaigns. You can use CHAT GPT to create blog posts, articles, and even social media updates that are engaging and relevant to your audience.
Overall, CHAT GPT can be a powerful tool for leaders who want to stay informed, make data-driven decisions, and improve customer satisfaction. By leveraging the capabilities of CHAT GPT, you can drive growth and success for your organization.
In the words of Stephanie Kwolek (1923–2014) Chemist and creator of the first synthetic fibre, “All sorts of things can happen when you’re open to new ideas and playing around with things.”
Disclosure: Part of this blog has been authored using CHAT GPT. Can you guess the parts that have been artificially generated by my friendly bot friend?
