In my coaching practice, I get to work with lots of leaders who are looking for a reset in various aspects of their life. Perhaps a promotion, a new organisation, and even an enhanced lifestyle. If they are working with me, it’s usually because they are seeking to change something.
I have found that with most clients, being able to visualise their goals and the activities that will support them can be a powerful way to encourage them to keep on track towards the achievement of their goals.
This can be challenging initially, however with some space for thinking and the courage to make some decisions, they find the experience rewarding and liberating.
If you would like to have a go, here’s the process:
For this activity you’ll need a paper and pen or electronic capture device.
Write down your BIG goal
I.e.:
- New job?
- Promotion?
- Study completion
Write down the steps that you will need to take to achieve this goal
I.e.:
- Identify roles
- Review resume and Linked In profile
- Identify people in your network that could assist you in achieving this goal
Create a timeline
Start with current date
Do you have a date in mind for your goal? (This is the end date for this timeline)
Plot the steps (as identified above) you will need to undertake to enable you to meet this goal/s on the timeline
Be specific
Include personal milestone/dates too
Review- has anything been missed? Does anything else need to be considered? Go ahead and modify if you need to… as many times as you need to.
Unless you are writing your timeline in concrete, you can change it any time. It’s yours. Your goals, your timeline, your way.
